INFO:
Nsereko was a central midfielder or right-winger. He spent his entire career at Kampala City FC from 1970 to 1984. There are sources claiming that he was born in 1952, but others report that he joined Kampala City's first team in 1970 or 1971 at age 16 and retired in 1984 at age 29. He represented Uganda from 1973 to 1982, earning at least 12 caps and scoring not less than 3 goals, one of them being at the historic 1978 Africa Cup of Nations where Uganda finished runner-up. He was fatally shot on September 15, 1991. As of today, the case is still unsolved.
Usually wearing the jersey n°8 and allegedly also the n°14, Nsereko was initially fielded on the right-wing position by Kampala City's coach Bidandi after discovering the player's speed and superior crossing ability that gifted his teammates many scoring chances. Nsereko earned his spot in Kampala City's starting team in 1971 and then he gradually switched main role into central midfielder. Two years later, due to a shortage of midfielders, he earned his first cap for Uganda in a 1974 AFCON qualifying match against Algeria: he proved instrumental alongside Abbey Nasur, another debutant, in a remarkable 2-1 win. Regarded as one of the best midfielders Uganda has ever produced, Nsereko was nicknamed Kisolo Ky'amanyi (translated in English into "powerful animal") for his stamina, physical prowess in midfield and intimidating approach. He was also nicknamed "Master Planner" for the way his playing style influenced the match. In fact, his impact on the pitch was immense. His trademark sharp short passes and ability to command the midfield were essential for Kampala City during the club's successes in the 1970s and early 1980s. He was also excellent from a technical perspective: former Nile FC coach Faisal Mohammed recalled during an interview that when Nsereko was in control of the ball, nobody could take it from him. Due to his start of career as a forward, the midfielder was also instrumental as a direct scorer: he scored 13 goals ─ only one less than league top scorer John Ntensibe ─ and 7 goals (in 29 apperances) in the 1976 and 1977 Ugandan league seasons, respectively, leading Kampala City to back-to-back league titles. The brilliance showed by Nsereko midfielder wasn't limited to local tournaments as he was a standout performer at the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations where he was also named in the tournament's best XI.
