His career started in 1994 at South African team Vaal Professionals. In 1996, he transferred to Switzerland where he played for Zürich until 1998, scoring 36 goals in 76 matches. He eventually had his best time in France where he played for Stade Rennais from 1998 to 2000 and Monaco from 2000 to 2005, scoring 37 goals in 77 games and 67 in 145, respectively. His two following experiences, one with Roma in 2005-06 and one with Blackburn Rovers in 2006-07 were underwhelming. He finally had a solid stint at Galatasaray with 37 goals in 92 appearances between 2007 and 2010 before retiring. He represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2000 to 2008, scoring 14 official goals in 22 caps. Nonda was a remarkable striker in Switzerland and France. He was effective in attack thanks to his constant movement in and outside the opposition's box. His shots were often powerful but not always accurate. However, he could be a threat with shots from more distant spots. He liked to receive the ball outside the area or even in midfield to start an attack despite the fact that his primary position was centre-forward. While he had a solid short passing ability, his crosses often lacked accuracy. His ball control wasn't the best but he could dribble, helped by a strong physique that often allowed him to get past one or two defenders. He possessed solid pace off the ball but wasn't very fast on the ball. He could make remarkable jumps but they rarely were useful as he wasn't a particularly accurate header. He was excellent in protecting the ball while waiting for a teammate to get into position, and he would even fall far back in defence on occasion to help recover possession. Spoiler: show |
