His career lasted from 1971 to 1984. He played for several teams, including Express FC, Nsambya FC, Nakivubo Boys, and Masaka Union. He won the league title with Express FC in 1975 and the Ugandan Cup with Nsambya FC in 1978. An Uganda international throughout the 1970s, he represented the country at the 1976 and 1977 CECAFA cups, both won, as well as the 1976 and 1978 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, the latter of which saw Uganda reach the final. Your typical n°6 midfielder with great stamina, Kiganda was a hardworking player who was described as having two hearts during the 1978 African Cup. He could be seen everywhere, in defence to prevent a goal and immediately after in the opposition's area attempting to score. He was nicknamed "Computer" for his brilliant ball control, the ability to keep the midfield in check thanks to his superb ball interception, and his quick counter-attacks set by his trademark defence-splitting passes. He would attempt this pass even when fans and teammates wanted him to clear the ball. Kiganda was also known for creativity, speed, technical skills, and exceptional game-reading abilities that were second to none. He could change the flow of the match in his team's favour seemingly out of nowhere. He was the only player of the Ugandan team who was allowed by coach Peter Okee to join the forward line whenever he wanted. Additionally, Kiganda was small but capable of taming opponents who were twice or three times his size thanks to his ability to dodge them with ease. |
