INFO:
Semwanga was a right-back who could play in all defensive positions and was capable in midfield too. His career started in the late 1960s at Masaka Union. His breakthrough came in 1969 after he joined Prisons FC where he quickly became the team's captain and led a defence that was already hard to penetrate. He debuted for Uganda in 1970 and represented his country at 1974, 1976 and 1978 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, the latter of which saw Uganda finishing runner-up. He was also a starter at the 1973, 1976 and 1977 editions of the CECAFA Cup, all won by "the Cranes". It's unclear how many times he capped for Uganda, but as an ever present in the starting eleven, it's likely that he represented the team in more than 40 or 50 occasions, scoring at least 3 goals, two of which from penalty. Senwanga retired in 1984.
Considered Uganda's greatest ever right-back and one of the country's best overall, Semwanga was a model of consistency that is yet to be emulated in the Ugandan national team. He always showed incredible levels of fitness, was rarely sick and never sustained serious injuries, hence why his name was always the first to be included in any coach's match-day list and was rarely substituted. He was the only ever constant in the Ugandan starting eleven when the team was forced to switch things up due to some injuries. Semwanga was also unmatched for his tenacity, discipline, commitment and mobility. He was excellent in both defence and midfield as he possessed a powerful shot and could efficiently penetrate opposing defences. Furthermore, he was a set piece specialist, always ready to take a free kick or a penalty. Only occasionally would he let Jimmy Kirunda take the free kick if it was from a very favourable spot. Semwanga's most memorable moment was, in fact, a floating cross that he delivered from a last minute free kick for Kirunda's winning header in a crucial match against Ethiopia that earned Uganda the qualification to the 1978 African Cup.
