Musa is a centre-forward and winger but he can also play as secondary striker. Raised in his native country at GBS Academy, he played for JUTH and Kano Pillars between 2008 and 2010 before transferring to Europe. Following one and a half season in the Netherlands at VVV-Venlo, he joined CSKA Moscow where he had his best time, scoring 55 goals in 167 appearances between 2012 and 2016 and winning the Russian Premier League three times. He played again for CSKA on loan in 2018, scoring 7 goals in 16 matches. He never had the same success outside of Russia, playing in England for Leicester City, in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr, in Turkey for Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor. He returned to Nigeria in 2024, signing for Kano Pillars. Musa is Nigeria's most capped player with 111 appearances, in which he scored 18 goals.
Musa has proved to be an exciting player in his early years, making speed and dribbling his trademarks. He wasn't physically strong but could get past opponents with his smooth movements and agility. While he seemingly was more helpful when playing on the flank, he was often used as a centre-forward, position that let him show good accuracy in one-on-one situations and the ability to play well on the lines. He would occasionally attempt more difficult shots from longer distances. Although he was sometimes in charge of set pieces, his crossing ability wasn't very good. On the other hand, his short passes usually were solid.
