INFO:
Ogolla is a former centre-back. His career started in the mid 1970s at Kisumu Hotstars. In 1979, he transferred to Gor Mahia where he spent the rest of his career, retiring in 1989. He formed with Austin Oduor the best defensive duo in Gor Mahia's history. He capped for Kenya 62 times between 1977 and 1987, scoring once. He was instrumental in Kenya's three CECAFA Cup consecutive wins between 1981 and 1983. He was often named best defender in the CECAFA region.
Considered the best defender in Kenya's history and one of the best to come out of the East Africa region, Ogolla was known for his immense physical strength and hard tackles that he used to outmuscle his opponents to win the ball. Moreover, he's one of the best free kick takers in Kenya's history thanks to an accurate rocket shot, one of the most powerful that Kenya has ever seen, that allowed him to score several crucial goals. He scored 3 or 4 goals from direct free kick for Gor Mahia in each league season. Always wearing the n°4 jersey, only an injury or the advanced age could take him out of Gor Mahia or Kenya national team. Ogolla took fitness and training so seriously that he had his own private camp in the quiet Nairobi City Park.
His most memorable performance was probably the 1982 CECAFA final against hosts Uganda where he put heart and soul to successfully mark the dangerous striker Issa Sekatawa. He eventually got his head busted open following an elbow from a frustrated Sekatawa. But Ogolla came back to the pitch a few minutes later with seven stitches and a bandage to finish the match. That's when he earned his nickname "Six-million-dollar Man" after a superhero character from a popular TV show.
