Pattinasarany was a defensive midfielder who could also play as sweeper and attacking midfielder. His career started at PSM Makassar where he played from 1968 to 1978. He then transferred to Warna Agung where he remained until his retirement in 1982. The same year he was included in the Asian All Stars. He capped for Indonesia 31 times, scoring 6 goals. He was team captain for several years.
One of the most prominent midfielders in Southeast Asia during the 1970s, Pattinasarany was nicknamed "Tiger of the field" for his agility and readiness to pick up the ball at every opportunity. And he could win the ball without injuring his opponent, proving his intelligence and sportsmanship. His playing style was elegant, and his ability to provide accurate short and long passes made him effective both in front of the defence and in a more advanced position. Ronny was calm and tactical. His passes were measured and his vision above-average. He didn't hesitate to drop deep in support of the back-line. Furthermore, his long range shooting ability made him one of the best free kick takers in Indonesia's history.
