Al-Marzooqi is a former centre back, capable of playing as right-back. He spent the majority of his career in Bahrain, playing for Al-Riffa from 2000 to 2004 and from 2011 to 2013, Busaiteen in 2013-14, and East Riffa from 2014 to 2016. He played also in Qatar for Al-Rayyan and Al-Sailiya, in Saudi Arabia for Al-Tai, and in Kuwait for Kuwait SC. He capped for Bahrain 113 times, scoring 10 goals.
Considered one of the most distinguished players in the Gulf region during the 2000s, Al-Marzooqi was one of the key players of Bahrain's defensive line. He possessed solid defensive skill as he could wait for his opponent and make the intervention with timing, and good physical qualities such as strength and power in his throw-ins. Regarded also as one of the best defenders in the Arab Gulf from an offensive standpoint, he was gifted with an accurate heading ability and an excellent jump that enabled him to be threat in the opposition's area and score some numerous goals. His ball distribution was decent in his long passes which were fast and usually accurate.
