David May was a defender who could play as centre back and right back. He played over 100 matches for both Blackburn Rovers from 1988 to 1994 and Manchester United from 1994 to 2003. He played also for Huddersfield Town and Burnley. He retired in 2004 even though he played for non-league team Bacup Borough in 2005-06.
May was a strong defender who preferred to play in the centre back position. However he was mostly used as right back, especially at Manchester United due to regular right back Paul Parker's injury and the already strong enough couple of central defenders formed by Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister. May was a controlled defender who could read well the game; he was good at tackling as well as in the air, which was his strongest point; moreover he could deliver good long throws with the hands.
