INFO:
West Ham's legend Tony Gale was a centre back. Before joining the Hammers, he played around 300 matches for Fulham between 1977 and 1984, replacing the retired legend Bobby Moore. He eventually joined West Ham where he had the best part of his career, playing over 300 matches, making a formidable couple of central defenders with Alvin Martin and being part of the squad that reached its best First Division place ever when they arrived 3rd in 1985-86. He also played 20 matches for Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95, winning the Premier League. He retired in 1998 after spells at Crystal Palace and Maidenhead United.
A careful defender, Gale had in his strength and powerful physique his strongest points. Moreover he had a decent speed, considering his size, and technique that made him also an able dribbler and an average passer. Also a good header and leader of the defence, he showed throughout his career his defensive instincts. He didn't dislike to join the attack occasionally especially during corners and free kicks, in fact he scored a few goals with West Ham and around 20 with Fulham.
