O'Neill was an offensive midfielder known as El Mago due to his skills. He started his career in Uruguay, at Club Nacional in 1992 before Cagliari bought him in 1995. He played five seasons in Sardinia scoring 16 goals in 136 matches and showing great skills and ability. In 2000 he could have made the big jump when he transferred to Juventus but he played only 20 matches in a season and a half because he was Zidane's reserve. He joined Perugia in 2002 but he wasn't the fantastic player saw at Cagliari. The same year he went back to Cagliari but never played because he decided to go back to Uruguay. He played 8 more matches with Club Nacional in 2003 before retiring when he was only 29 years old. He capped 19 times for Uruguay scoring 2 goals. When O'Neill arrived at Cagliari he was considered as the Francescoli's heir. He had a big physique but was fast enough for his size; he was fantastic with the ball which was always at his feet; he had great game vision, short passing and extremely accurate, pinpoint, long passes; he was a fighter who tried everything to take the ball off his opponents so he could show his sublime skills; he was also a nice header and free kick taker. O'Neill could have become one of the best around at his time but he loved alcohol, frivolous life and because of this he never reached his full potential. Compilation of O'Neill's skills and goals
