Was his tech really that great, and better than Ademir da Guia’s? I’d thank you if you could provide clips of him displaying such a god-like technique

I don't know if he was worthy of 98 but he looked like a player who could easily pull off a great pass first time or with the outside, or a feint to keep the ball or a dribbling, and he didn't have to look at his teammate, opponent or the ball. It's like he had enough technique and awareness that he didn't need to pay attention to his surroundings.

nickname: ''Vesgo'' , ''Rei do Gatilho''
and as interista said, he was recognized for his great skill and creativity, and he earned these nicknames for the fact that he looked one way and gave the pass to the other.

Indeed, surely one of the most elegant players ever

And I begin to agree with 98tech for him, take a player like Zizou, for example, Mário Sérgio surely didn't bad a First touch as good as Zidane's but his ability to play without looking at the ball and the way he could pull out unexpected sombreros and juggle with the ball in the middle of a match surely was at least as good as Zinedine

I was about to ask why he never got many caps for Brazil, but realised he played during Zico and Socrates' prime!

Not only Socrates and Zico... but Rivellino, Zenon, Pita, Renato Morungaba, Tita, Paulo Isidoro, Dirceuzinho, Aílton Lira, Adílio, Pintinho, Mendonça, Dicá, Jorge Mendonça, Muricy Ramalho, Arturzinho, etc, etc, etc...

That time, Brazil had one great "number 10" per team. Now, we have none.

Crazy stuff

I think you went a bit overboard with some of those names. Anyway, I'd say the main reason Mário Sérgio wasn't called up too much was due to his personality. He was a very difficult person to deal with, and since Brazil had a lot of great midfielders at the time, he wasn't really "needed".

RIP Mário Sérgio, another victim of the Chape plane tragedy. :(
