INFO: Mohamed Diab Al-Attar, widely known as Ad-Diba (1927–2016), was a legendary Egyptian center forward, considered one of the greatest strikers in the history of African football, famous for his refined technique, clinical finishing, and decisive performance in the first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1957.
Here is a summary of his playing style and skills:
Technical and Clinical Center Forward: Ad-Diba was known for being a complete striker, with great finishing ability, both with his right and left foot (ambidextrous).
Decisive Goalscorer: He scored all of Egypt's goals in the final of the first African Cup of Nations in 1957, scoring a hat-trick (actually, he scored 4 goals) in the game against Ethiopia (4-0).
Intelligence and Positioning: He was a "box striker," capable of reading the game and positioning himself to take advantage of chances, being the top scorer of the first AFCON tournament with 5 goals.
Leader in Attack: During most of his career (1944-1958) at Al Ittihad Alexandria Club and the Egyptian national team, he was the reference man in attack, helping the team win titles such as the Egyptian Cup (1948) and the first AFCON (1957).
Mobile Striker: Although he was a classic number 9 of the time, he was not static, moving well to create spaces for himself and his teammates.
In 2007, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) included Ad-Diba in the list of the 200 best African footballers in history.
